[edit] Vandals

Is there anyway we can undo vandal attacks? HerrHaHa deleted a whole bunch of stuff and I was longing for a quick revert button. --Thunderfoot

Yes, You can go to the history page for the main page, and it has a history of all versions including prevandal versions, which you could of course paste into the current version. also remember to use the sign button... --Nicholasjh 17:19, 2 February 2007 (CST) Our plan is--Jhoward 12:48, 3 February 2007 (EST) to keep the story going in an unvandalised way with a less time-consuming process in the next few days.

A note from Nostrum19: When or if you decide to paste your deleted contributions back into the page, you need to read the story. Don't delete anything if at all possible, because your contributions may in fact still be there in some sort of edited way. Just because it is edited doesn't mean that it is not still your contribution. It just means that it has evolved. You can choose to edit those edits, but if you feel the need to paste in something that was deleted, do it in a nondestructive way, without deleting anything that someone else has contributed or edited.

There seem to be two separate camps. 1)Those who believe that everything that they've written must remain in exactly the same state as they originally intended to the extent that they will delete days worth of collaborative effort in order to restore some preconceived intention of ONE individual, and 2)Those who welcome editing to what they've written and are interested to see how it evolves. I hope everyone will come join the second camp. Thanks.

There seem to be lots of contributors who hijack the story or characters and fill the scenes with explicit sexual references with all manner of man and beast. I am not talking about diversity or lifestyle. It just seems that someone should help set the tone, keep it all-ages-appropriate, and not let the work be taken over by blatant vulgarity. I don't know if this is censorship in some bad way, or if it is just making sure submissions are suitable for the general public? I edit as many extreme examples as I can, but the authors just return in put in their stuff again. I am going to take a break for a while and see how others handle this. It seems that we get the story to develop a bit, then one or two individuals come in and walk all over everything, spraying vulgarity like graffiti on every screen. I am concerned, but do not know how to proceed? --Pabruce 16:12, 3 February 2007 (EST)

The entire Section 2 link has disappeared. Carlo is unrecognisable, the beginning has completely changed, and Waldo(aka Tango Poisoner), Inu, Anderson and the surgeon have disappeared as well.

I would really highly suggest that we direct new shards of the story to later chapters rather then removing already established characters and disrupting the whole storyline!

SpoiltCheese 02:38, 4 February 2007 (EST)

please could you move your very useful contributions on how to handle it to the top of this page and join the discussion there? Most of the talk seems to have evolved into a top-first culture. Many thanks. --Sunlight 03:42, 4 February 2007 (EST)

I'm wondering, do we have a section as to report vandals where they get banned/warned? The only person who can block users at the moment is the Admin account if I'm not mistaken. If a persistent vandal decided to they could easily ruin every ones work and render the wiki virtually inoperable until a backup is restored (I've seen it done before). - Jedaz 21:12, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Interesting though that some people are accussed of hijacking or being vandals when they make changes to some chapters for clarity - there are many instances where the original chapter does not fit at all with either the character synopsis nor the characters development in the rest of the story. A case of taking it all a bit personally perhaps???? It seems there is at least one or two people in this project who perceive that they are in fact the editors or sole authors of the story and swoop by in the early hours of each morning and make significant changes as evidenced by the recent changes page. This is supposed to be a global project so if there are people here who don't like their work changed or removed or altered in anyway then perhaps they should really try and write their own novel. And making up wild accusations about hijacking (smacks of anti-terrorism policies to me) or name calling just doesn't cut it either! --Sweet-sweets 05:32, 13 February 2007 (EST)

[edit] fixes

Where have all the chapters gone??? --Djjansen 18:42, 2 February 2007 (CST) Guys I know it looks fixed but its not really. Need admins to fix those edit links.. they dont seem to work proeprly. as soon as someone edits it will mess it up.

Is there a 250 word limit? if so, shouldn't there be a deletion limit too?

If everyone just leaves the first 7 chapters for now, and continue with the others until the admin can fix 1-7 thanks!!

"Admin Please Fix Me. Restore from before 9.20 "

I've just fixed the Chapter Seven link. NB this is not usual html, but a special kind of wiki code. Click the Mediawiki logo at the bottom of every page for the manual or look here.--Sunlight 04:05, 2 February 2007 (CST)

Oh Dear!! How many times we gonna see a page like this?

Sure, there are always going to be spammers, but unless there is some kind of FAST fix to those mass deletions, i think it's all gonna go belly up  :-(

Yeah they should have locked the chapters after they get so many lines.. as to keep the story consistant.

I'm not sure I see this thing getting off the ground, the way things are. The basic problem is that any changes made must be made throughout the whole novel...if someone changes something at the start, everything that comes after is affected. Likewise if something down the road is changed, everything before it has to get retconned. Think I'm in favour of eventually locking off chapters, even though it may be against the spirit. Although not chapter one for a while yet. Spammers aside, it needs serious help :)

      • NOTE TO ADMIN restore from before 9.20 *****

Yeah but its still not fixed entirely.. might need some kinda of admin... in fact are their admins??? if so could we vote for some author guides who help curve the story, this might help against spammers and amss deleters etc...

Looks good, :-) (well, looks better, lol)

ok i got it back to as close as i can. - djj

Still not quiet cleared up folks, all the chapter headings are missing, and links also...

Yeah I second that eh... wth.

Okay so some spammers cam by and stuffed everything up guys,

can we revert to just before 9.20

(Whoops. Sorry. If someone wants to revert to oh call it 2 changes ago that'd be grand.)

[edit] Total deletion/replacement

I've reverted the story twice, replacing the ENTIRE story with something of my own creation. I'm a jackhole! --Leperfesh 16:46, 6 February 2007 (EST)
