Excuse yourself to the bathroom

You excuse yourself to the bathroom. A Russian soldier dressed in a starchy green uniform leads you to the bathroom, which is outhouse. He only walks you to the entrance of the restaurant, and just points you the way to the bathroom. The bathroom happens to be behind some bushes, and is obscured from view from the restaurant.

Behind the bushes, you see a familiar contraption. In fact, you only managed to get here in it. Shiny and metallic, it sticks out of this (almost sepia-tined)landscape like a sore thumb. It is a time-machine.

Seeing how you are getting nowhere in the negotiations, you are tempted to use it. Perhaps propel yourself into a completely different time period where you might be able to make more of an impact?

You get onto the time machine. You run your hands over the many knobs, cold to the touch, so unlike what is found in this time. You look at the dial that controls which place along the dimensions of time you will end up in.
