Gestalt
From PenguinWiki
Gestalt is a German word that literally translates as "shape". In the sense of this novel it refers to 'An organised configuration or pattern of experiences or of acts.' [G: form(From the Macquarie Dictionary. An entirely uniqe, distinct and new entity that is comprised of smaller units, working as a whole to create a new organic wholeness (summary of the writer). "It has been said: The whole is more than the sum of its parts. It is more correct to say that the whole is something else than the sum of its parts, because summing up is a meaningless procedure, whereas the whole-part relationship is meaningful." (Kurt Koffka, 1935: Principles of Gestalt Psychology. New York: Harcourt-Brace. p 176)
