Viviani is the French Foreign Minister. He has been on cosy terms with Izolsky, the Russian Foreign Minister, due to their common love for Bridge. (Personally, you detest the game, but that's another story). Social and cultural exchanges between Russia and France have been stepped up in recent months, and you know that this, if not stemmed, will eventually lead to the Franco-Russian Alliance of 1894 that proved so disastrous for Germany's fortunes. You have to stop this somehow.
j'arrive a Paris. Viviani a l'air mauvaise, et il deteste vous parce que vous deteste jouer a Bridge. But you know that you have to somehow get along with him and make a good impression on him, and somehow come to an agreement that would slow down or stop the formation of th Franco-Russian Alliance.
However, your discussion with him over vin et fromage is going nowhere, although you have the very best camembert in France on the table. And Viviani is getting more and more impatient by the miunute.
