Hugo Boast
From PenguinWiki
In May 1885, the famous author Victor Hugo once boasted that he could stop the tide from leaving the shore by the power of his mind alone. He stood at the shoreline for hours with his hand to his temple, while his portrait was drawn by Stanislaw Julian OstrorĂ³g. To Hugo's horror, the tide was not affected by his mental efforts. He died of shame shortly afterwards.
